IMPORTANT NOTES:
***Please look at all the pictures carefully (and read the text in the photos) so you’ll know the sizes of the plants we’re offering in this listing.***
Miniature orchids have a huge following among orchid enthusiasts. There are many fascinating types, they’re uncommon and exotic, and they take a minimum of space! They do need to be grown in a terrarium/vivarium for best growth, as miniatures struggle without high humidity conditions. Fortunately, you can make a perfectly suitable orchid vivarium for less than $10 (see photos for some examples).
Of the miniature orchids, Dinema (Epidendrum) polybulbon is one of the best miniatures you can grow. It’s a hardy orchid that produces adorable little pseudobulbs on a horizontal rhizome, with stringy roots made for clinging to tree bark (although it grows very well on a bed of sphagnum moss). The best part of Dinema polybulbon is its bronze-colored, star-shaped, dime-sized flowers. Not only are the blooms beautiful, but they produce a lovely honey-citrus fragrance! The plants we’re offering are all cuttings from our larger plants, but they establish easily, and will look very cool mounted on a cork or wood slab in a vivarium, or simply growing on a bed of New Zealand sphagnum moss. Once they get bigger, they bloom out multiple flowers at once, with the blooms lasting a couple of weeks.
If you’re looking to grow miniature orchids, start with this one. It’s easy, exotic, and very exciting when it flowers!
