Description
This bronze-blooming orchid deserves a GOLD medal! One of the best things about orchid flowers is their wide variety of colors and color combinations, with different colors on the petals and lip. What you want to avoid when breeding orchids is a dull muddy brown, and sometimes the line between brown and a glowing bronze is quite fine. Fortunately, this Oncidium, Pacific Sunrise ‘Hakalau’, gets the medal, but really is a first-place winner. Here’s why it deserves gold: 1) Miniature orchid, perfect for windowsill 2) Easy to grow and bloom 3) Blooms in a 2” pot size 4) Fast-growing (for an orchid!) 5) Strong fragrance! The most striking aspect about this orchid (besides its attractive bloom) is the strong fragrance from even a small plant. It had a very pleasing floral scent with undernotes of chocolate. The chocolate part isn’t too surprising, since one of its parents is the species Onc. ornithorhyncum, which is nature’s original chocolate-scented orchid. This variety definitely blooms on smaller plants than its cousin, the ever-popular Sharry Baby, making it an excellent choice for the windowsill or other space-limited growing areas. Larger plants will produce multiple flower spikes for a dazzling and fragrant display!
