Description
Here’s a fascinating Cymbidium made from Cym. devonianum and Cym. Son of Freak. Well, if there was a Son of Freak, there must’ve been a papa (or mama) Freak, which makes Cym. Neal Tadlock part of the Freak Family.
We don’t know if naming this freak family Cymbidium after Neal Tadlock was in jest or in tribute, but surely it was the latter.
In either case, Cym. Neal Tadlock is truly a fine and distinctive orchid. One of its parents, Cym. Son of Freak, was a peloric (which means the flower repeated part or all of lip/labellum on the petals or sepals). You can see the peloric-ness of these Cym. Neal Tadlock blooms in that the sepals flanking the lip, which are half-spotted. Very cool!
Each petal or sepal actually has an axis of symmetry, which you can see in the dark line running through the middle of the long axis of the petal/sepal. The spotted lip patterning has taken over one of the proximal sides of the sepals adjacent to the lip.
These Cym. Neal Tadlock plants we’re offering were made by a cloning process which can result in instability of the peloric mutation, so some blooms may look more normal than others. This hybrid is mildly fragrant, as the species parent, devonianum, does produce fragrant blooms.
Spotted Cymbidiums seem to be somewhat uncommon these days, so we’re pleased to offer these lovely spotted Cym. Neal Tadlocks to the discerning collector! PLEASE NOTE: these plants will be shipped BARE ROOT. They are NOT IN BLOOM when shipped.
