On the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, there’s a character on Mars named Marvin the Martian. If Marvin were an orchid, he would have to be the aptly named Onc. Space Race, as the colors of this cute Oncidium hybrid match the little Martian perfectly!
Most Oncidium hybrids tend towards warmer colors, but as lovely as they are, after awhile the yellows and reds of this group tend to look alike. Fortunately, some breeders do take the road less traveled and develop uncommon orchids like Space Race to provide variety and a lovely contrast to its warmer-colored relatives.
Like all Oncidium hybrids, Space Race is easy to grow and easy to bloom, and will adapt to a variety of growing conditions (here on planet Earth, at least). Water about twice per week, avoid direct sun (bright shady conditions work well), and fertilize about twice per month, and your Space Race will achieve lift-off.
