Description
This Cymbidium is one that will inspire envy in anyone seeing it in bloom! It has an illustrious lineage, with all-time great Cym. Sarah Jean ‘Ice Cascade’ as one of its parents, and Cym. Ruby Pendant from the Geyserland breeding program as its other parent. Both of these parents are (or have been) top-sellers for us, and we expect their child, the lovely Cym. Ruby Cascade, to be just as desirable!
This hybrid actually gives an interesting view into flower color genetics. One of its parents, Sarah Jean ‘Ice Cascade’ produces nearly pure white flowers, while the other parent, Ruby Pendant, produces very dark red blooms. So by mixing the two, you could reasonably expect in-beyween pink flowers to emerge (and some of the progeny of the cross probably did but were not selected for further growth/production). While Ruby Cascade’s blooms are not as intensely pigmented as its red-flowered parent, sunlight comes through the petals in a way that makes the blooms practically glow.
Like both of its parents, Cym. Ruby Cascade produces a pendulous inflorescence, making this orchid suitable for hanging, or put it on pedestal (or a stack of pots if that’s all you’ve got) for an incredibly attractive display.
In addition, the blooms produce a mild, pleasing fragrance.
This hybrid is very easy to grow, and will definitely become an impressive part of any collection!
